QUARANTINE MOOD AF

I have been listening to music differently since quarantine.  Normally I try to check out all the commercial hits.  I skim them for a few seconds to see if I like the beat, then weigh that out with how offensive the lyrics are to figure out if I can support it.  Then it goes into my crate or it doesn’t.

It took me a couple weeks to settle into this new world.  I was in a fog: stress was high, creativity was non-existent.  I did a lot of walking, breathing, stretching, and most of all listening.  I tried to ignore the internet, which seemed like a barrage of messages that I wasn’t doing enough to take advantage of this time. I got as quiet as I could. I laid in bed with my headphones on and got lost in one song after another. I laid on my floor with my head next to an amp and listened to records. I appreciated the production nuances I usually miss.  I let myself get lost in worlds that these artist work so hard to create. I went on runs around my neighborhood and listened to full albums, start to finish.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was tuning into the pulse of my community.

The result was Mood AF.  This mix is different because it’s not about me.  It’s about these artists, the medicine they carry, and you.  This is for you.  I hope it feels like the friend who calls you right when you need them. They listen to you cry and then tell you it’s going to be OK in a way that you actually believe.  It’s melancholy, revolutionary, hopeful and soul soothing AF. It hits me right in the feels, in the best way possible. I am so grateful to my tribe Namaste As Fuck for supporting this project. I would not have been able to create it without them.

We are in this together. I love you.
